How to disable automatic restart of Windows 10 after installing updates.

The Windows 10 Anniversary version, like its predecessors, have the Windows Update tool thanks to which the operating system updates are carried out. In previous versions of Windows these updates could be postponed and even disabled so that they would not take place. However in Windows 10 the installation of updates is automatic and “mandatory”. If to this we also add that after each update of the Windows operating system, our computer must be restarted to complete the process, the level of frustration and anger can be monumental.

However, it should be noted that if you are a user of the Windows 10 version, there is the possibility of scheduling your computer to restart after the update so that it takes place at the time we want. Another thing we can do is postpone the restart of the system to carry out the update through a corresponding window that is displayed in the lower right part of the desktop.

However, in general the times available for selection are usually very short, ranging from 10 minutes to restart in 4 hours . This is usually not enough, especially if you are working with your computer or doing any other task and you do not want to be interrupted by the restart of your Windows.

In older versions of Windows we could block reboots of our computer after Windows Update updates using the group policy tool or the Windows registry, however in Windows 10 this is no longer possible using these methods. This does not mean that it is impossible, but that we will have to carry out another method to be able to carry it out and below we will show you step by step how to do it:

How to disable automatic restart after Windows Updates in Windows 10

The first thing we will have to do is open the task scheduler, which you can do by searching for the tool from Windows search itself. Once it is displayed in the search results, you just have to click on the tool for the tool to open.

Once the task scheduler interface is displayed, you must use the tree on the left of the window to go along the path: Task Scheduler Library> Microsoft> Windows> UpdateOrchestrator.

This will cause other options to be displayed in the central part of the window, among which you will have to look for the one with the name: Reboot, in which we will have to click with the right button of the mouse to select the option Disable in the context menu.

Once the Reboot tasks are disabled, it will be time to download and install the Ownership program. You can do this from the following link: Download Ownership

Once the program is downloaded and installed, you will see how now in the contextual menu (when we right-click on any file), the Take Ownership option is displayed .

Now you will have to open the Windows file explorer and once inside go to the following path:

C: Windows System32 Tasks Microsoft Windows UpdateOrchestrator

Once in this folder you will have to see different files among which we will have to look for the one with the name Reboot. On it we will have to right click with the mouse button so that once the contextual menu is displayed in which we will have to select the Take Ownership option .

Once we have ownership of the Reboot file , we will have to right click on said file again, but in this we will have to select the Properties option , which will cause the opening of a new window in which we will have to select the Security tab .

Once in the security tab we will have to click on advanced options which will cause the opening of a new window in which we will have to click on Change Permissions. In this way, the option Disable Inheritance will be revealed, which we will have to click. In the next tab, you must select the option Remove all permissions inherited from this object .

This will result in the removal of most users and groups. If this does not happen then manually remove any other user or group still appears in the list. Next line you will have to click on the Add option and then select the Select Main option .

Now add your username under the field: enter the object name to select , and click Verify Names and click OK. Finally, in the next window, select Full Control and click OK again.

After that, you should see a new permission in the list of permissions in the Advanced Security Settings window for Reboot with Full Control in the Access column . If this is shown in this way, you just have to click OK and voila from now on the installation of the updates will be carried out, but it will not be necessary to schedule or postpone the restart of your Windows 10 computer.
